Local honey good source for allergy relief

Spring time is the worst for allergy sufferers; everything is sprouting, new growth emerges and bees are a-buzzing, all the while spreading that plentiful pollen. With so many OTC (over the counter) allergy remedies, why would you want anything else? Because these products deal with the symptoms, not the root cause.

Many people do not realize is there is a homeopathic alternative to dealing with these allergens - honey!  Bees distribute the pollen that cause these irritations, but when you eat  local honey, honey produced within 20 miles from your home, it can act like a vaccine.  Think about it - bees carry the pollen, therefore the honey produced by these bees will include trace amounts of whatever pollen the bees have spread around.  In theory, by exposing yourself in small amounts, your body will build up a natural immunity to the allergen.  Be careful not to O.D. on local honey - this may cause allergic reactions!  You want to start out gradually - eat a quarter of a tablespoon for the first few days, slowing increasing to one tablespoon.  After the initial "phase in" period, and you figure out that you will not go into anaphylactic shock, you should only need a tablespoon or two per day.  I have tried local honey in my coffee, and while it wasn't bad, I much prefer it in hot tea and on whole wheat toast!
